GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
HONGKONG. 25th. June, 1918,
I have the honour to transmit the enclosed
copy of a minute by the Director of Public Works on the
subject of the development of Marine Lot 25.
2.
I considered in Executive Council the
recommendation of Mr. Chatham for acquiring from the owner
the land necessary to carry the proposed new street through
the whole of the lot at the uniform width of 30 feet and the
Council advised that in view of the improvement to the proper- -ty by the constructions of such a street the Director of Public Works should endeavour to come to an agreement with the owner for reduced compensation for the land. In previous cases this has been paidat the rate of 83 a square foot which
should have amounted to $24,000 in the present case. The
result of these negotiations is shown in the attached copy
of a letter from the architect of the owner, the compensation
agreed upon being £12,000.
3.
If you approve of this arrangement which
is certainly desirable on sanitary grounds, I shall be obliged
if you will inform me by telegraph.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
WALTER LONG, M.P.,
